Overview

Although new vaccines continue to introduced for children, there is increasing interest in the development and introduction of vaccines that target older individuals. While most pediatric vaccines have historically been introduced into 'universal' programs realtively quickly ... this has not been the case for some of the vaccines for the elderly: a rapidly growing demographic in Canada.  This session will provide a brief overview of the current status of vaccines available for this vulnerable but rapidly growing group.

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to …

•Describe the increasing emphasis on vaccines for older individuals

•Summarize the available vaccines for older individuals

•Discuss recommendations regarding the use of these vaccines
